A New Chapter
Where
ever you go people will ask what you want to do when you grow up. It’s
simple I want to travel and serve. Traveling to Tanzania this year will be a
stepping-stone for what I want to continue through my life. This being my third
trip with Children’s Global Alliance I have treasured the endless memories,
smiles, laughs, late nights, and experiences that have come with Nicaragua,
Morocco, and soon Tanzania. These trips
have given me the opportunity to experience countless different cultures,
religions, teach and be taught, meet new faces everyday, and say “I love you”
in different languages.
Hi
my name is Megan Carty I am 15 years old and I go to Vail Christian High School
in Vail, CO. I play varsity volleyball and basketball with VCHS. I have a
family of four including myself. My moms name is Kathy, my Dads is Bill, and I also
have an older sister Haley who is 20 years old and goes to Arizona State
University.Without my family and my mom finally saying yes to me going to Nicaragua when I was only13 years old, I would never have had the opportunity to go on these life changing trips. My family has given me the endless support that I need and I couldn't be more grateful for them. I have lived in the Vail Valley my whole life and couldn’t be happier to be able to grow up in this breathtaking town.
In
the summer of 2017 I will be traveling to Tanzania on a service with Children’s
Global Alliance. Children’s Global Alliance is a 501(C)3 non-profit program
based in the Vail Valley. The organization was created in 2010 to fill the void
of large-scale volunteer experiences for teenagers my age. The goal of CGA is
to infuse the next generation with a sense of global responsibility, promote
and character and integrity among teenagers, and provide relief and education
in developing countries. In Tanzania we will be working at L.O.A.M.O School in
Arusha, Tanzania. L.O.A.M.O serves 308 children, baby class through grade 7,
from ages 3-16 years old. We will be assisting teachers in the classroom,
improving conditions and programs at the school, participating in home visits,
and providing much needed supplies and love to the overwhelming number of
children attending the school there.
I am
so extremely thankful for these opportunities and all that have come with these
incredible trips. I can’t wait to come off the plane again with more knowledge
of the world, a bigger sense of selflessness,
and with another different outlook on life.
